July 18:

Filomena is now an Elite Candidate!

We had a wonderful time at the AHS inspection at Hilton Farm in Somerset, VA. We presented Filomena (Federalist/Scarlett/Sam Steele) for her mare inspection and Mare Performance Test. She was handled and ridden by Fox Lair's manager, Brandi Smith, who did an amazing job. Filomena ended the day in 3rd, after two other incredible mares and was easily accepted into the AHS books. She was announced as an Elite Mare Candidate (will be Elite once an offspring is presented), and was also accepted into the Jumper Breeding Program! She recieved a final score of 7.33, boasting an overall jumping score of 8. This was fantastic news and we were ecstatic! Filomena has now officially joined the breeding program as a pemanent broodmare and we look foward to what she will produce for us.

The Fox Lair team attended our first RPSI inspection at Sankt Georg Farm in Petersburg, VA with our one and only Thoroughbred mare, Meadow Fan aka Delightful. The Sankt Georg team welcomed us with open arms as well as the RPSI members. Delightful was accepted into the RPSI Main Mare Book with a final score of 42. which allows any future foals to be fully papered. It was a fantastic inspection and we look forward to returning in 2016 with Delightful and her foal.

Fox Lair attended the GOV inspection at Nokimis Farm in Montpelier Station, Virginia. We took Balouette du Rouet with her month old Soprano colt and walked away with a Premium foal! Holly Simensen, one of GOV's inspectors, commented that, "They usually would not award Premium status for such a young foal, but that "Sirprano" was too lovely not to give him Premium."

We had a fantastic time at the 2016 AHS inspection at Hilton Farm in Somerset, VA. We presented one mare and three foals for inspection. Fox Lair's mare, Balouette du Rouet, earned incredible scores for her mare inspection and came away as a Premium Mare AND the Site Champion Mare!  This was excellent news and we were extremely happy with how she did! Fox Lair's three foals also performed well. Looking Glass, by Lagoheidor was said to be, "A lovely, feminine sporthorse prospect." Crescenda, by Contratto, had a "lovely topline, pretty head, and beautiful canter." Last, but not least, Vivaverto, by Viva Voltaire, was named Site Champion Jumper Foal! The inspector loved him and had so many good things to say about him. We are looking greatly forward to all of these foals futures!

For the first time, Fox Lair hosted our very own RPSI inspection. Two outside mares were presented first; Maiden Heir, who was accepted into the German Riding Pony books with a final score of 44, and Lauren MC xx, who was accepted into the Main Mare Book with a final score of 45. A total of four foals were also presented. Sires represented were Mannhattan, Goldmaker, and Eclipsed by Color. All foals received Silver Premium, with Fox Lair's colt, Evanesco, going Top Foal with an overall score of 7.8! After the inspection a wonderful lunch was presented, which received raving reviews from both Otto and Anne. Anne stated, "This spread it definitely one of the best we have had." Overall, hosting was an awesome experience and we hope to continue to host RPSI each year!!

We are extremely excited to announce that Crazy For Calypso has been accepted into training with Kate Chadderton! Crazy For Calypso aka Cici was one of the first fillies Fox Lair has produced! She is by the late Coconut Grove and out of one of our foundation broodmares, Crazy Lady (Crazy Classic).

Kate is an international 3 day event competitor hailing from Australia. As well as eventing she has competed Prix St George dressage and Grand Prix showjumping. She trains with not... only Boyd Martin but also with gold medalist Phillip Dutton. From mid January to the end of November Kate, her horses and her students compete in all levels of recognized competition up and down the East Coast of America and Canada.

Kate has said Cici is a fantastic mare and VERY talented at jumping! She takes everything in stride and we cannot wait to see where the future takes her.

In other fabulous news, Grafton aka Joey, has also been pursuing a career in eventing with rider Ella Groner! Joey is by Graf Top II and also out of Crazy Lady (Crazy Classic). which makes Cici and him half siblings. Joey is owned by Fox Lair and was originally made a career for himself in the jumper ring with Brandi Smith. In the Fall of 2015 Ella chose to lease Joey as he was the perfect candidate for her to pursue her path in eventing. Joey and Ella are currently competing at Training Level and recently completed a 3 Day Event at Waredaca this past fall, where they finished 7th out of 35 starters! The pair have been doing exceptionally well since their first event in the Fall of 2015. They have already won several events over the past year and consistently place well. We are very proud of them both and are excited to continue watching them in the future!
